  1. Info-Mac has been set up to reduce the amount of effort needed to maintain
  2. such a large mailing list.  To do this, we ask that each site handle either
  3. local distribution of the list, or post it locally as a bboard.  That way, we
  4. have to send at most one copy of each message to each site.

  6. But first, Info-Mac is also available as the Usenet group comp.sys.mac.digest.
  7. If your site has access to Usenet, this newsgroup should give you everything
  8. you need. It is much more efficient in terms of network load for you to
  9. get the digest through Usenet.

  11. Additionally, if there are only a few (or one) people interested in
  12. Info-Mac at your site, we recommend that you subscribe through a Bitnet
  13. listserver. This is done by sending a message consisting of the line
  14. SUBSCRIBE INFO-MAC <your full name>
  15. to the robot who lives at LISTSERV@RICEVM1 (Bitnet) or
  16. listserv@ricevm1.rice.edu (Internet). If you have problems getting this
  17. to work, contact IMAC-REQ@RICEVM1 or imac-req@ricevm1.rice.edu.

  19. As a last resort, we can add you to our direct subscriber list. This is
  20. a significant hassle for us and will take a few weeks to process. You
  21. should set up an address, for example info-mac-local, at your
  22. site. We will add it, and you can then redistribute it locally. But please
  23. only do this once you have explored the other alternatives.
